The Artist
Hello! My name is Julie Couch.
My working background is varied, but has been predominantly office based and non-creative. Four years ago I decided that with my family growing up and making a few less demands on me I would be really radical and do something just for me! I went to university full time and studied for a BA (Hons) in Interior Design. It was hard work, but I had the most fantastic time and it reawakened the creative side in me that I had not tapped into for many years - usual story: work, family, etc.
The reality of commercial Interior Design is not as creative as you might expect (which is what I am doing now). Horrible things like budgets and awkward clients get in the way :) which led me to search for another creative outlet in my spare time.
I have always adored glass and the wonderful properties it has in relation to light and colour. I happened upon lampworking and bead making while surfing the internet and was fascinated. I read all I could find on it and then took a class with Beverly Hicklin (she was brilliant) to make sure it was all that I thought it would be before buying the kit. I haven't looked back - I love it!
